Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies the result. Seneca County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or contact submission may be kept long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical information about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Seneca County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to Seneca County Sheriff Records, the local criminal courts, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and the New York State Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or dossiers about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted there is governed by the provider's privacy policy rather than this policy. Each provider controls its own retention and disclosure practices, so review those terms before sending a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Seneca County offices, New York courts, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may track activity across different sites to select ads. That processing occurs on their systems and under their policies.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

- Outside search providers that process a submitted query

Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's residence and applicable law. In New York, the Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, governs access to state and local agency records, while Executive Law section 837 governs DCJS criminal history responsibilities and authorized dissemination. Those laws do not turn this private site into a public agency. Subject to the law that applies, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
